Reset Windows 7 Password (Windows Installation Disc)

This guide will show you how to reset your password on Windows 7 machine. Any edition of Windows 7, including both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

1. Insert Windows 7 installation DVD or USB

2. Load from the DVD or USB, You will see the Windows screen click Next on the screen with your language.

3. In the bottom click on the Repair your computer. May need to wait while Windows installation is located your OS. Note that drive letter will either be C: or D:

4. Select Windows 7 from the Operating System list and then click the Next button.

5. You will System Recovery Options. Now note down what drive letter the OS is
(Should say bottom Operation system: Microsoft Windows on (Drive:) local disk.

6. From System Recovery Options, choose Command Prompt.

7. A box will open of Command Prompt, execute the following commands, in order

copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\
Press Enter if ask to overwrite file type yes
should say 1 file copied

Type
copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\setch.exe
Press Enter if ask to over write file type yes
should say 1 file copied

Type Exit

8. Remove the disc or flash drive and then restart your computer.

9. Once your on the Windows logo screen. You going to open command prompt by pressing shift 5 to six times and box will appear.

10. A box will open of Command Prompt, execute the following command

Type
net user myusername mypassword (the user name is the one you see on the screen login).
Press Enter

Type Exit

11. Login with your new password.
